Our History

Ebenezer Senior High School (fondly known as Padua) was founded in 1941 by the late Mr. Robert Teiko Aryee, who was born on the 23rd April 1902 in Accra to Mr Charles Ayi Aryee, a fisherman and Naomi Quarcoo, a trader. In those days there was no reason to encourage schooling as the people had no role models or money to send their children to school. Mr. Robert Teiko Aryee decided to change all this by empowering his local community. He started a private school, night school, in a small rented room in the Timber Market area, on Charles Lane Street, Ayalolo, Accra, with just four (4) students. By 1947, four (4) out of six (6) students had written the Cambridge School Certificate Examination as private students. Mr. Aryee had help from the following pioneering teachers: Mr. E.K.A. Otoo, Joseph Tetteh Taye, Miss Joyce Quartey, Enoch Amui Amoo, Emmanuel Oblitey Amoo, E.M. Oku, Emmanuel Nii Addy and Miss Margaret Ahulu.

Programmes (Courses) Offered

General Science

The General Science course from Ebenezer Senior High School is ideal for anyone who wants to gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of key subjects in biology, chemistry and physics. In biology you will cover subjects such as cell theory, genetics and evolution; in chemistry you will cover subjects such as atoms, molecules and the periodic table; and in physics you will cover subjects such as magnetism, electricity and sound. This course will be of great interest to those who want to further improve their knowledge and understanding of general science, and will greatly enhance your career prospects.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts is a creative and inspiring multidisciplinary course encouraging students to explore different aspects of art and design. It builds confidence, helps students identify their strengths and develops skills and technique. A key feature of the curriculum is that students benefit from regular formative feedback and assessment. This process is designed to allow the student the freedom to experiment, explore and investigate new, different and challenging ways of working. The course is hands on and student centered. The Elective Subjects are General Knowledge in Arts, sculpture, painting, etc.

Home Economics

Home economics is mainly the study of home management. Home economics, or family and consumer sciences, teaches cooking, nutrition, housekeeping, personal finance, personal wellness, and consumer issues. The Home economics courses offered here helps students to develop an understanding of the factors that influence the well-being of individuals and families within the home and community and of the actions people take to enhance and sustain those environment.

Business

Commerce is the heartbeat of every nation and national growth depends highly on business. Here in Ebenezer Senior High School you can study business studies, business marketing, economics, accounting, maths, statistics, and additional maths.

Agriculture Science

The Agriculture Science course brings together a wide range of disciplines including, for example, animal and land management, food science, economics, horticulture, technology, and environmental conservation.

General Arts

Linguistics is the art of languages, the beginning of colourful writings. The Elective Subjects in this programme are French, Geography, Economics and Elective Mathematics.
